Virginia S. "Gennye" Bailey

Virginia S. “Gennye” Bailey, age 89 of 589 Richmond Place, Loganville, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2013 in the Crossview Care Center in Pineview.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 13, 2013 in the Cedar Creek Baptist Church.Dr. Napp Granade will officiate.Interment will be in the family plot in the Cedar Creek Cemetery. Mrs. Bailey was born on May 24, 1923 in Abbeville, Ga.She was a long time resident of the Atlanta area, but returned to Pineview in 1988 where she lived for most of the rest of her life. She was daughter of the late Frank Sims and Martha Doster Sims.She was a homemaker and member of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church.She helped start Bob Bailey’s Appliance in 1962 with her husband, Bob Bailey. She was a former member of the Pineview Hope and Hoe Garden Club and the Pineview City Council.She was very active in the Wilcox County Arts Council.She was former President of the Towers PTA and Columbia PTA in Decatur.She was very active in the Columbia Drive UMC in Decatur where she also was a Sunday School Teacher.She served on the Administrative Board and was President of the UMW.She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Bailey. Survivors include:sons-R. Lee (Brenda) Bailey, Jr. of Loganville, Ga. and Bill (Toni) Bailey of Hoschton, Ga.,daughter-Ellen Bailey of Winder, Ga. sisters-Martha Payne of Pineview, Ga. and Katherine Strickland of Sarasota, Florida, 7-grandchildren and 3-great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to United Methodist Children’s Home, 500 S. Columbia Dr., Decatur, Ga. 30030 or Cedar Creek Baptist Church, C/O Norman Cohen, 16495 Hwy. 233, Abbeville, Ga. 31001 Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Tuesday, March 12th in the funeral home. Frazier and Son Funeral Home in Rochelle is in charge of arrangements.
