Rose McLeod Wischkaemper died on October 31, 2013 in Decatur, Georgia.She was born Rose Frances McLeod on November 9, 1922 to Charles Roderick McLeod and Charlye Kay Ertzberger McLeod on the farm in Wilcox County, Georgia.She attended Pineview High School, Georgia State Women’s College, and graduated Cumae Sum Laude from the University of Georgia.She was inducted into the honorary academic fraternity, Phi Kappa Phi.After graduation in 1944, she worked for Georgia Power company teaching women to survive the war time scarcity of electrical appliances.Then, as the demand for troops became dire, she joined the U. S. Marine Corp from 1944 to 1945 and attained the rank of corporal. After the war, Rose took a position as instructor at the University of Miami teaching foods and nutrition in the new Home Economics Department.She received her MS from Auburn University where she met Professor Paul Wischkaemper and married in March of 1949.Rose continued to work teaching in the University and working for the North Carolina Welfare Department. In 1983, Rose and Paul moved from Blacksbur, VA (Virginia Tech) to Pineview, GA where Paul raised Black Angus cows and they became very active in the Georgia Cattlemen’s Association.In 2013 rose moved from Macon to Decatur, GA to be near two daughters.Until the end Rose was a determined, brave, creative, and wonderful teacher to those around her. At 90, she survived her parents and sister Laura McLeod Wilcox and brothers, Charles Roderick McLeod III and Robert Henry McLeod.She also survived her husband, Dr. Paul Wischkaemper who died in 2007.She is survived by her sister, Jane McLeod Faircloth and her three daughters, Kay Wischkaemper, Frances Moriarty (Dave) and Elsa Richards (Dave). Rose’s funeral will be a graveside service on November 9, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Pineview Cemetery in Pineview, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, GA 31204. Frazier and Son Funeral Home in Rochelle is in charge of arrangements.
