Maurice Chapman Laster

Maurice Chapman Laster, of Rochelle, Georgia, passed away on February 26, 2013. Visitation will be held on March 1st from 6:00-8:00pm at the Frazier & Son Funeral Home, 1016 Fourth Avenue, in Rochelle, GA. The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on March 2nd at First Baptist Church of Rochelle, with the Reverend Jim Wiley officiating. Burial will follow the funeral at Morningside Cemetery in Rochelle. Maurice was born in Fitzgerald, GA on March 15, 1945. She graduated from Wilcox Central High School, where she enjoyed being a majorette in the band and fell in love with her partner for life, Jack D. Laster. Maurice and Jack began their 51 years of marriage on November 9, 1961. Maurice retired from Robins Air Force Base as a personnel management specialist.She loved animals, and for many years was one of the top breeders in the nation of Shar-Pei show dogs.In the past, she served as an active member in Rochelle United Methodist Church, Shirley Hills Baptist Church (Warner Robins), and Lizella Baptist Church, making many dear life-long friends along the way. In recent years Maurice and Jack returned to Rochelle, where they moved their moved membership to First Baptist Church of Rochelle.Maurice was actively involved in the local community serving as secretary of Friends of Morningside Cemetery, member of Dogwood Garden Club, and member of Hazel-Chapman Women’s Missionary Union.Maurice loved to travel with friends and family.She will be particularly remembered for her warm laugh that would light up the room, her generosity, and the special unique relationships she cultured with each of her eight grandchildren. Maurice is survived by her husband Jack, her sisters Jackie C. Mann (Billy) of Macon GA and Gloria C. McCracken of Palmetto FL, her sons Jeff (Grace) of Richardson TX, Scott (Dana) of Alpharetta GA, and Paul (Cristina) of Macon GA, and her grandchildren Hannah Mendoza (Rudy), Josh, Olivia, Isaac, Matthew, Luke, Jake, and Noel. Maurice is preceded in death by her father, M.E. Chapman, and her mother, Eulalia Wilson Chapman. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial donations be given to Friends of Morningside Cemetery for future upkeep and beautification of cemetery (in care of Ann Titshaw, Treasurer, at PO Box 457, Rochelle, GA 31079). Frazier and Son Funeral Home in Rochelle is in charge of arrangements.
