Matthew Wilson Whitman, Jr.

Matthew Wilson Whitman, Jr., age 44 of Bonaire, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2026 in the Crisp Regional Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 in the Abbeville First Baptist Church. Reverend Randy Wells will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the service in the church from 3:00 PM-4:00 PM.

Matthew was born on August 8, 1981 in Americus, Ga and grew up in Abbeville, Wilcox County. He was son of Matt Whitman, Sr. and Debbie Dickson-McCartney, He was employed as a Locomotive Engineer with the CSX Railroad. He was a member of the Brothers Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen. He was preceded in death by grandparents Joy and Hal Dickson and an uncle, Pat Whitman.

Survivors include: Children-Alexis Bridges (Wesley Carter), Valorie Whitman (Sean Robinson) and Calleigh Whitman, parents-Matt Whitman, Sr. and Debbie Dickson-McCartney (Michael) and Trina Hughes Whitman (Randy Maddox), Siblings-Danielle Whitman (Russell Ayotte), Laura Leigh George (Todd), Landon Whitman (Ashley), Luke Whitman (McKenzie) and Teri Wogan (Jamie Spires), grandparents-Donald and Priscilla Whitman, cousins-Will Whitman (Rachael), Whitney Groth (Allen), Leah Sears (Leven), West Wells (Erin), Josh Wells (Laura), Tara Hall (Michael), aunts and uncles-Elise and Randy Wells, Bubba and Melissa Weldon, Alex and Julie Dickson, and many close friends and extended family.
