Karen Coody Bloodworth

Karen (Coody) Bloodworth passed away on September 20, 2026, in Pineview, Georgia, surrounded by her family and beloved dog, Lucy. Born August 24, 1956, Karen celebrated her 70th birthday just weeks before her passing.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Raymond Bloodworth; her only child, Mandee (Shay); her cherished and incredibly spoiled grandson, Thomas; and a granddaughter on the way, who will grow up knowing “KK” through the stories and love she left behind. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus and Margaret Coody; her brother, Steven H. Coody; and many well-loved animals.

Karen’s roots were firmly planted in agriculture. Growing up in Vienna, Georgia, she worked alongside her father and brothers at Coody Dairy - showing livestock, developing a lifelong love of animals, and helped to keep the peace and laughter flowing.

She carried that love into the life she built with Raymond as they farmed and raised livestock - particularly her favorite, Angus beef cattle. Even as dementia affected her memory, one familiar request remained: she wanted to get in the truck with Raymond and go check on the cows.

For nearly 30 years, Karen owned and operated Rochelle Florist & Gift Shop, becoming a familiar face throughout Wilcox County and beyond. Through countless weddings, birthdays, holidays, and funerals, she used her talent to help others celebrate, remember, and care for the people they loved.

Education was equally important to Karen. After earning degrees from Middle Georgia and Georgia Southwestern, including a Master of Science in Management, she began a 15-year career at South Georgia Technical College in Cordele. She took tremendous pride in teaching her students, many of whom continued to share with her family the impact she made on their lives.

Karen also knew exactly what she liked: Diet Coke, Georgia Bulldogs, big teased hair, St. Simons Island, fried shrimp, any and all animals, and time with her family. Retirement gave her more time with Thomas, whom she spoiled at every opportunity.

Karen’s final years were affected by early-onset dementia. Her family hopes her story encourages others to take persistent changes in memory, judgement, personality, communication, or familiar abilities seriously and seek medical guidance when concerns arrive.

She was blessed to spend her final days at home, lovingly cared for by Raymond and Mandee. Her family is especially grateful to Stacy and Savana Bloodsworth, David and Judy McDuffie, LuAnn VanDalsen, Fallon and Adam Hall, her compassionate hospice teams, and the many members of the Bloodworth family who showed up with love and helping hands.

Karen leaves her legacy in the community she served, the students she taught, the flowers she arranged, the farm and cattle she loved, her infectious and unforgettable laugh, and most of all, her family.

She often reminded Mandee and her students, “Education is something no one can take from you.” In lieu of flowers, monetary gifts in Karen’s memory may be made through Raymond Bloodsworth account at Rochelle State Bank and will be set aside for her grandchildren’s education, honoring her lifelong belief in learning. Karen’s memorial service will be held at Friendship Baptist Church, 61 Friendship Church Road, Hawkinsville, Georgia on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be held one hour before the service in the church. Rev. Trey McBryant will officiate. The family asks those attending to wear bright colors or florals in honor of Karen’s beautiful, colorful life.
