Jack Walker, A beloved member of the community, passed away on April 28, 2025, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, at the age of 78. Born on July 26, 1946, in Eastman, Georgia, Jack lived a life marked by service, dedication, and a profound love for the great outdoors.
A proud veteran, Jack served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and retired as a First Sergeant in the Army national Guard. His military service reflects his commitment to his country and his remarkable leadership qualities.
Additionally, Jack devoted nearly 30 years of his life to the Georgia Forestry Commission, where he retired as the Chief Ranger in the Wilcox, Houston, and Pulaski County Units. His commitment to his work and community was evident, earning him respect and admiration from his colleagues and those he served. Following his retirement from the commission, Jack continued to contribute to his community through his own business, Jack's Mowing and Tree Service, which he operated for 25 years.
Jack was not only known for his professional achievements but also for his love of nature. An avid outdoorsman, he took great pleasure in fishing and hunting. One of his daily rituals included visiting the Ocmulgee River, where he earned the affectionate title of "Official Ocmulgee River Observer," a testament to his spirit and appreciation for the beauty of the natural world.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Jean J. Walker, and their son, Jon (Alisha) Walker. Jack's legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Brittany, Josh, and Keri Ann, along with his great-grandchildren, Conner, Cian, and Cullen. He was preceded in death by his parents Grady and Myrtle Dix Walker and brother, Dennis Walker.
With heavy hearts, family and friends will gather to honor Jack's life during a visitation at Frazier and Son Funeral Home in Rochelle, Georgia, on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 6-8 PM. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 3, 2025 in the Hopewell Baptist Church in Rhine, Georgia. Jack will then be interred at Morningside Cemetery in Rochelle with military honors following a graveside service.
Jack Walker's life was characterized by his unwavering dedication to family, service, and nature. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.
