Emily Jean Peavy

September 7, 1944 — February 28, 2026

Emily Jean Peavy, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and wife, passed away on February 28, 2026, at her home in Panama City, Florida. A private graveside service will be held at 5 PM on Saturday, May 23, at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.

Emily was born on September 7, 1944. She was a graduate of Abbeville High School and Middle Georgia College. A dedicated public servant, Emily spent more than 30 years working for the State of Georgia under numerous governors and played a key role on the planning committee for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Emily is survived by her two siblings, her sister Susan and her brother Ray, with whom she shared a close and loving bond throughout her life. She was also a cherished aunt to her niece, Rebecca, and her nephews, Travis and Justin. Emily was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Sarah Peavy, and her nephew, Terrence Peavy.

Emily will be remembered first and foremost as a loving and devoted mother to her son, Eric Jones, who was the light of her life. She cherished every moment spent with him and took immense pride in the man he became.

Emily was a devoted daughter who always dedicated her time and energy to taking special care of her mother and father as they became elderly. She extended this same love and care to everyone in need throughout her life. Emily’s selflessness, compassion, and understanding nature were felt not only by her family, but by all who knew her. “Classy” and “one in a million” were just two of the many ways people described the amazing person she was.

Emily was an adoring grandmother to Jade and Hali Jones. She poured her heart into supporting her granddaughters, offering guidance, encouragement, and unconditional love as they navigated their own paths.

An avid traveler, Emily found great joy in exploring the world. Among her favorite destinations were the beautiful islands of Bermuda, the breathtaking landscapes of Australia, and, above all, the tropical paradise of Hawaii.

Emily’s sharp wit, adventurous soul, and generous heart touched everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but her loving spirit and the memories she created will live on forever.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Emily’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Frazier and Son Funeral and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
