Brent D. Gibbs

Brent Gibbs, age 56 of Rochelle, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025, at Crisp Regional Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Craig Barnette officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of Brent, who left this world far too early. When Brent entered heaven, God said without a doubt, “well done, my good and faithful servant”. Losing his mother Barbara, was one of the hardest things Brent ever endured. Without a doubt, there was a glorious reunion in Heaven Monday morning.

Brent was a devoted and cherished soul, loved by his family and community. His life was truly a testament to love, faith and service. Our family chain has been broken, but with his example to follow, we will no doubt see him again.

Brent was born on November 6, 1968, to Ronald and Barbara Gibbs and he was described by Ronald as a miracle from God, early and not ready for this world. John 16:21 tells us that when a child is born there is pain, but the pain disappears because of the joy. Brent created joy his entire life, he had the ability to bring joy to all situations. We find ourselves with a broken chain, he was the link to that joy.

Brent was married to his beloved wife, Kathy, with whom he shared countless joyful moments and adventures. Together they created a home filled with laughter and love.

Brent took immense pride in his role as a Registered Dietitian and he had recently retired from the State of Georgia, but never actually stopped working. He exemplified the characteristics of a servant’s heart. He not only had a servant’s heart professionally but also shared the same with his church. He was a deacon at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Owensboro, and he understood the importance a strong spiritual chain. It did not matter if it was teaching Sunday School or making sure the sermon was displayed on the church screen; he was ready to serve.

Brent was a graduate of Wilcox County High School in 1986 and Georgia Southern University, Class of 1991, where he played football for the Eagles. We was a proud booster of the Wilcox County Patriots, he loved watching high school football and cooking for the concession stand on Friday nights.

Brent’s survivors include wife-Kathy Gibbs, stepson Adam (Julie) Newman, stepdaughter Nicole (Wes) Rhodes, grandchildren Halle and Ansley Newman, and Lily Rhodes. Father and stepmother Ronald (Charlotte) Gibbs, sister Terri (Reid) Branch, brother Ron (Cameron) Gibbs, nephews Tanner Gibbs and Drew (Anna) Ellis, nieces Summer (Zach) Gibbs, Rebecca (Branson) Owens and Hannah Gibbs.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wilcox County Athletic Department, 1358 Hwy 215 South, Rochelle, GA 31079. Brent believed in giving back to the community that he loved so dearly.

Brent will be profoundly missed, but his love and legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
