Betty S. Brown, age 85, of Abbeville, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2023, in the Taylor Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 14 th , in the Lebanon Baptist Church with Pastor Chuck Taylor and Pastor Bryan Luke officiating. Visitation will from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service in the church. Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery.
Mrs. Brown was born September 3, 1937, in Rochelle, Georgia, to the late James Isom Cook and Mary Emma Watson Cook. She was a former employee of the Wilcox Garment Company in Rochelle, and was of the Baptist faith. She was a homemaker, and began sewing crafts in the 1970’s and started making wood crafts in 1988, and had her first show at the Abbeville Wild Hog Festival. In her later years, she enjoyed scrapbooking, covering boxes and placing poems, slogans, and photos on wood and giving them to family members. All the grandkids loved to go to Granny Brown’s and help with whatever project she was working on. The highlight of her day was when all the grandkids would come to visit her. She loved Christmas and all the decorations they put up for people to ride by and enjoy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Jackson Brown in 2015; and 3 sons, Jimmy, Johnny, and Robin Brown.
Survivors include her son, David Brown (Marsha) of Abbeville; her daughters, Jacquelyn Collier (James – deceased), Penny Harris (Robert), and Tammy Hughes all of Abbeville; her sisters, Naomi “Sis” Brown of Abbeville, Mary Alice “Bug” Combs (Bill) of Eatonton; and Donna Helms of Abbeville; her 9 grandchildren, Jimmy, Scotty, and Jackie Collier, Lance and Johnny Brown, Ricky Greer and Brittany Bell, Misty and Jason Hughes; and 17 great-grandchildren.
